ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR’S REPORT 10/18/2007

  1.   Presented = them to a special meeting of the EDC on 10/10/07 and was instructed to get = at least one more proposal for a “reality check” against the = two proposals which were significantly different in price.

 

  2. Send a Letter to the Chief Elected Official telling him that the project h= as been funded and the process has begun.  (They say this has already b= een done.)
  3. Then have a public meeting in town with the following items on the agenda:=

<= span style=3D'mso-fareast-font-family:Arial;mso-bidi-font-family:Arial'>&nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;       III.   &= nbsp;  If there are no currently existing buildings= available, then the Postal Service will consider new construction.

    1. Not less than 30 Days after the public hearing, the USPS will notify the = town of its decision.  If the decision is to seek other existing properties or build new, an RFP wi= ll be issued for possible locations.
    2. Once RFP’s are received, the USPS will choose one, and once again ask the town officials for their input as to that location.
    3. Construction will begin at the new location.

 

 

  1.   I felt the public response in= terms of numbers of people attending the meeting was disappointing, however Tamarack has now concluded this critical part of their application to = the Connecticut= Siting Council.

  1.   I will plan to = speak with her in the near future.

 

  2.   I showed the building to one additional private party who might be interested.  The details for selling the building are now being handled by Chuck Frigon, since a new law went i= nto effect on October 1 concerning the procedure for selling public proper= ty by municipalities.

 

  3.   Copies of the disc with photo= s on it will be passed out at the EDC meeting 10/18/07.

 

  1.   Unfortunately I did not do sufficient homework to realize that = this is not the show to meet those people, since all the vendors supply restaurants.  We did have= an enjoyable time, and got to sample lots of different foods and beverages and talked to several vendors who might have opportunities to promote = Watertown to= their customers.
