Early Voting Information

Public Act 23-5, as amended by PA 23-204, (hereafter the "Early Voting Act") established early voting for state and municipal regular general elections, special elections, and most primaries, including a Presidential Preference Primary, held on or after April 1, 2024. The requirement does not apply to town committee primaries or referenda.

The Early Voting Act created an early voting process that allows eligible people to cast a ballot before the day of an election or primary. The number of days and period of time that a voter can cast an early ballot varies depending on the voting type.

General Information

The Registrar of Voters are responsible for conducting elections, primaries, and special elections and maintaining accurate voter records. Other activities include redistricting, canvassing and registering voters, having special voting sessions, and conducting registration sessions at high schools.

If you would like to become a registered voter, forms are available at the Town Clerk's Office and the Registrar's Office. To be eligible to become a voter, you must be eighteen (18) years of age and a citizen.

The Registrar's are always looking for people to work at the polls on voting days. Contact the office if you are interested in this position.

Absentee Ballots for May 21st Budget Referendum

Absentee ballots for the May 21st Budget Referendum will be available beginning Thursday, May 2nd at the town clerk’s office to qualified electors. Obtaining an absentee ballot is a two-step process. An application must be completed and verified by the town clerk’s office before an absentee ballot will be issued.

Applications for an absentee ballot can be picked up in person, mailed, or downloaded via a link on the town’s website at www.watertownct.org: Click on departments; town clerk; and absentee ballot information. The completed application can be brought into the town clerk’s office or placed into the Absentee Ballot Drop Box located outside of Town Hall.

Absentee ballots must be mailed to the applicant or may be given only to the applicant in person. Ballots must be returned to the town clerk’s office before the close of polls on Tuesday, May 21st.
